Andrew Chaplin is a Director working in the Comedy / Comedy Drama genre. Stories with a heart that don't take themselves too seriously are what he loves bringing to the screen. If you're not laughing one minute then welling up the next, he clearly needs to try harder.
He cut his comedy teeth directing sketches, and the humiliating actors' audition FIERY HAWK did particularly well, going viral. For many years he worked with Leigh Francis as Keith Lemon doing various TV and commercial projects, including a BACK TO THE FUTURE TRIBUTE show which helped land ITV2 their highest ratings since they launched.
Since then, Andrew's moved into directing long-form narrative projects. This includes Roisin Conaty's critically acclaimed GAMEFACE for E4 and Hulu. The Telegraph called it 'the sitcom of the year' and it was one of The Guardian's 'best new comedies of 2017'. In autumn 2018, Andrew received an RTS nomination for BEST COMEDY DIRECTOR for the show. A second series is on its way with production starting in the spring of 2019. Andrew will be directing again.
He also shot BBC Three's thriller comedy WITLESS, which ran for 3 series and was nominated for BEST COMEDY at the ROSE D'OR awards.
In the autumn of 2018 he filmed a brand new 6 part series for BBC One called MISTER WINNER which stars stand-up comic Spencer Jones. The prime-time, pre-watershed series is due for release in 2019.
Andrew also regularly dips his creative toes into the advertising world, and has shot commercials for brands CARPHONE WAREHOUSE, CANDY CRUSH, MATCH OF THE DAY and even for something for a home testing STI kit (SNIFFERS) which, amongst other awards, won Bronze at the CANNES LIONS in 2015.
1500 WORDS his "charming, funny and heartbreaking" short film about a man who only has one thousand five hundred words left to live, was a VIMEO STAFF PICK and won at 6 different film festivals, including New York, London and Milan. He's planning the next one for 2019.
He hates frankfurters.
